The 1st ASEAN-ROK Business Council Meeting consisted of 3 sessions:
Session 1 covered the issue of how to structure and operate the Business Council.
Sessions 2 and 3 were devoted to the issues of cooperation in trade/investment and the development of SMEs between the two economies.

AKBC sessions were participant-led while one or two experts in relevant fields in each session can be invited in order to make recommendations and help facilitate the discussion.

All participants were provided with opportunities to comment or raise an issue at least once during the three sessions.

Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) co-hosted “The 2nd ASEAN-ROK Business Council meeting” with National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 20th 2015.

The 2nd ASEAN-ROK Business Council Meeting consisted of 4 sessions:

Session 1 covered prospect of economic cooperation between ASEAN and Korea, following the launch of AEC. Sessions 2 and 3 were committed to supporting programs for start-ups and surviving tips for SMES business in Malaysia. The final session dealt with expanding opportunities through mega FTA such as RCEP with ASEAN member countries.

During discussion session, ASEAN participants commented their issues or difficulties with regard to operating and managing SMEs. In addition, ASEAN participants identified the areas in which they wish to cooperate with their ROK counterparts.

Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCIM) co-hosted “The 3rd ASEAN-ROK Business Council meeting” with Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry(LCCIM) in Vientiane, Lao PDR on August 3rd 2016.

In this AKBC meeting, KCCI proposed three programs: a mutual exchange program to build and enhance SME competencies, AKBC website as an official channel of communication among members and sectoral boards to expand areas of cooperation.

The 3rd ASEAN-ROK Business Council Meeting consisted of 4 sessions: SMEs cooperation and synergy at the global value chain between Korea-ASEAN; proposal for enhancing ASEAN-Korea private sector cooperation; a new dimension to facilitate trade - global halal data pool and its linkages; practical contribution to ASEAN MSMEs.

As a part of competency building program, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) organized a SME business delegation to visit ASEAN's high-tech industrial sites and seek economic cooperation in Singapore and Thailand, from July 3rd to July 7th, 2017.

In addition, ASEAN companies with high-potentials joined capacity enhancement program in Korea from November 20th to 21st.

Both delegation programs were organized by recommendations from the ASEAN Coordinating Committee for Small and Medium Enterprise (ACCSME) and each nation’s economic organization.

AKBC initiated two sectoral boards as test cases during 2017 to share the issues and enhance cooperation in the same industry. Steel industry was proposed by the Korean side, and the healthcare industry was proposed by the ASEAN side.
